Captain Phil and deck hand Travis were great! They were super helpful and had a good sense of humor! We all limited out on our combo trip. Best business to go fishing with. Barb and Gary are fantastic folk! They had good reviews and a buddy referred me to them. After calling a couple times to figure out dates and rates the lady told me to give their Captain a call. Shortly after talking to the Captain I realized he was another company. I set up a day with him for a party of 2 possible 4. He gave me rates. He never said anything about a price increase if it was just 2 of us. At the last minute he hiked the price up another $50 a head because we turned out to be a party of 2. I called back Inlet to double check their prices and see if we were getting took, but they didn't answer. When Inlet called back I had committed to a day with Norm after the last minute rate hike as I wanted to make sure we could get out. Inlet assured me Norm was a great partner captain they use all the time and he'd take care of us, but we have to sort the price with him. I really didn't mind the extra $100. It was just how it was slipped in at the last minute. Comes across as a price gouge. Norm was helpful over the phone but sounded like he'd been hitting the bottle after talking to him a couple time. I justified that as normal for a captain. Upon getting to his boat in the morning he was straight up really rude. Heading out of Homer he started smoking in the little cab of his boat we were all crammed in & I had to tell him to put his cigarette out. He didn't like that. The bathroom aboard the boat was out of order ( or so he said. ) We didn't catch any fish. Norm called it a half day due to rough weather. The biggest problem was Captain Norms bad attitude. Not fun to be around. I don't recommend either of these companies. I've done the full day halibut fishing charter twice now with this company. Would not hesitate to go a third time. Captain Brian was awesome as well as our deck hand Celia (sp?) who was brand new. They made sure we caught our halibut minimum and put us on the fish during our half day trip. Really great people and had an incredible time! We grilled our catch that night and they were tasty as well.
