I am a city slicker from California. Flying in a small plane and landing on the beach was thrilling, as was seeing the bears close up. Better than anything else, though, was the kindness and expertise of the tour leaders. I signed a waiver so I could wear my own boots instead of waders - I have a bad ankle and am more steady on my feet if I wear my own boots. I was warned that I might get my feet wet and I said ok. Sure thing! we got to a wet spot on the trail. I was ready to step into the water and get my boots wet, but I wasn't allowed. Unbelievably the tour leader picked me up (no small feat, believe me) and carried me. At home I would have had wet feet and gotten what I deserved. With Sasquatch Alaska Adventure, I got an adventure all right, but also a lasting memory of great kindness and care. Thank you for both!! This Alaskan Bear viewing tour was probably the coolest thing I have ever done! Zach was a great guide and we had the opportunity to view a HUGE brown bear! I was something from my bucket list, and I am glad that I did it. I can't wait to go back and do the Alaska glacier tour! Looks soo beautiful!!! Last summer I had the trip of a lifetime with several of my closest friends. We started the trip by flying over spectacular glaciers, volcanoes and mountains en route to visiting brown (grizzly) bears in Katamai National Park. The flight was breathtaking in the expansive beauty. After landing on a beach (!) we set out to view the bears in their summer meadow. Zack shared his extensive knowledge about the brown bears-their behaviors, eating preferences (they graze grasses in the summer), the subtle nuances of mother bears (we were near a mom and two cubs)- all the time while being in the presence of almost twenty bears. Zack made the trip safe, yet very adventurous. Wonderfully fantastic trip! Zack Tappan guided me and a group of friends to see the Grizzly bears near Homer, Alaska in July of 2011. He was an expert pilot, landing us safely on the beaches of Katmai National Park, and then taking us to an area teeming with these beautiful bears. We got to watch a mom and her two 6 month old cubs cavorting in the grass, along with about 20 other bears. Although we got very close to the bears (30-40 feet away from them), we never felt unsafe - Zack was a skilled guide and also well-prepared should any mischief arise. This was one of the most amazing wildlife adventures I have ever had, and I would recommend Zack in a heartbeat! This trip is one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. I felt safe both during the flight and visiting these enormous creatures! I learned so much about their lifestyle and habitat from Zack. He is an amazing guide. If you are visiting Homer, this is a must do trip!
